Why You Should Update Your Company Branding and Logo
Many times in our live’s we are asked to update. We update our cars, update our smart phones, update our clothing, update our hair styles, etc. But sometimes we disregard a need to update our brands. Especially because our brand could be something that we live with for as long as decades.
But in a society with constantly updated technological media, it is crucial to focus on the digital experience of consumers and the strength of simplicity in your logo.
Companies both large and small are updating their logos by the masses. Major companies such as Google, Yahoo, IHOP, Reebok, MLS Soccer, airbnb, TGI Fridays, Aquafina and Paypal have recently updated their logos with a focus on simplicity over complexity.
For most companies this often means an improvement on their current logo, not a completely different concept. This often curbs fears for business owners who are afraid to part with their cherished logo.
Below is just a small sampling of major companies that have overhauled their logos:
Open Table
Wendy's
Airbnb
Ihop
K-Swiss
Olive Garden
YP
WWE
Verifone
T.G.I. Friday's
Southwest
Sbarro
Pizza Hut
Mack
There are many reasons for giving your brand a makeover with a focus on simplicity. Logos with simplicity better connect with clients as they are much easier to recognize and make a visual connection. In short, simple is much easier to remember.
Logos with simplicity are also better suited for digital applications. Simpler logos are easier to use on a much wider spectrum of digital canvas’, along with print applications. And when logos are used in so many different ways, at so many sizes and in so many different media, simplicity allows for more flexibility and scalability. Simply put, at 1 inch or 100 feet your logo should be legible, appealing and recognizable.
Many business owner’s suffer a case of what we like to call “logo separation anxiety.” Convincing some business owners to update their logo can feel like pulling teeth. It is very easy to understand why someone would not want to part with something that has been so close and personal to them for many, many years. But like the rest of the updates in our lives we must realize that there is inevitably a time for a logo update.
It is also important to remember that a logo update DOES NOT mean a complete logo overhaul. Like many of the above shown logos a great logo update can simply involve keeping the same basic look of your logo with a new focus on simplicity and current trends.
